Better With You star JoAnna Garcia Swisher is set as the female lead in CBS’ untitled Greg Malins/Greg Berlanti comedy pilot, reuniting with Better With You executive producer/co-showrunner Malins.
The multi-camera project, from Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Berlanti Prods., centers on Nick who has a health scare and realizes that Wendy (Garcia Swisher), his best friend and business partner of 15 years, is ‘the one’. Now he has to figure out how to break it to her.
Malins and Berlanti wrote the script and executive produce.
This marks the third consecutive WBTV pilot for Garcia Swisher following Privileged and Better With You, both of which went to series. She also did an arc on the studio’s CW drama Gossip Girl. It also marks the latest multi-camera comedy for Garcia who started off on the WB’s Reba.
Earlier this season, Garcia was attached to a Warner Bros. TV multi-camera comedy project written by Better With You creator/exec producer Shana Goldberg-Meehan. The family comedy sparked a bidding war before landing at ABC with a production commitment but ultimately didn’t go to pilot, making WME-repped Garcia Swisher available. She immediately received multiple offers, choosing the Malins/Berlanti pilot.
JoAnna Garcia Swisher will begin her arc on the TV series “Royal Pains” starting this week! Her first episode of the show will be airing on Wednesday, February 1st at 10p/9c on USA! Don’t miss it!
The season premiere of “Royal Pains” that will feature JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Dr. Nina Greene, will be on Wednesday, January 18 at 10/9c on the USA Network!
We just chatted with Jennifer Morrison at the American Music Awards yesterday, and not only did she admit that they have seen our Once Upon a Time Dream Cast gallery, but apparently they’re taking one of our ideas and running with it!
“They are after Joanna Garcia for one of the roles, which would be amazing,” Morrison reveals. And while she wouldn’t say which character they want for Garcia, we hear that OUAT is pursuing a storyline for Ariel from The Little Mermaid, so let’s just put two and two together, shall we?
OK, they might have come up with this casting choice before our gallery, but it makes us so feel so much cooler if we just believe that they are listening to our casting choices. Plus, Morrison told us that they were big fans of our gallery.
“E! just did this thing where they [picked] their ideal cast, which was cool. That was really fun!” she says. “We were all like, ‘Oh my gosh, that it really fun to look at!’”
But we’re not the only ones dreaming up casting choices for OUAT. Morrison also has her eye on a certain somebody. “I would love for Rose Byrne to be on the show at some point,” she tells us. “I feel like she’d be an amazing, amazing fairy-tale character.” We are absolutely on board with this casting choice, but who would you pick for her fairy-tale character?
Need one more thing to get excited about? A OUAT musical episode could definitely happen! “We all sing,” Morrison says. “Josh Dallas, Ginny Goodwin, me. I don’t know if Robert Carlyle sings. He probably does. I feel like we have a lot of musically inclined people in the cast. We’ll see!”
Shana Goldberg-Meehan and JoAnna Garcia are returning to ABC. In a very competitive situation, the network has landed a comedy from Better With You creator/executive producer Goldberg-Meehan that is toplined by Garcia, that series’ star.
The multi-camera project, about a woman (Garcia) who moves in with her husband’s family, has received a pilot production commitment. The pitch hit the marketplace yesterday and sparked a bidding war after landing offers from ABC, NBC and CBS. Warner Bros TV, where Goldberg-Meehan has been based since her days on Friends, is producing.
Goldberg-Meehan most recently created and executive produced the multi-camera ABC comedy series Better With You, starring Garcia and Jennifer Finnigan, which ran for one season.
This marks the fourth consecutive series project at Warner Bros TV for Garcia following Privileged, Better With You and Gossip Girl, on which she did an arc. Goldberg-Meehan and Garcia are with WME.
In what could be one of the last big bidding wars this pitch season, I hear that 3 networks — ABC, NBC and CBS — are after a multi-camera comedy from Better with You creator/executive producer Shana Goldberg-Meehan, which is toplined by the series’ star JoAnna Garcia.
The project, about a woman (Garcia) who moves back in with her husband’s family, was formally pitched to the networks today, landing offers right away, but there had been buzz about it for the past couple of weeks. Warner Bros. TV, where Goldberg-Meehan has been based since her days on Friends, is producing.
Goldberg-Meehan has history at both ABC and NBC. Her family comedy Better With You starring Garcia and Jennifer Finnigan had a seasonlong run on ABC where Goldberg-Meehan also has done a couple of pilots. And at NBC, she spent 7 seasons on Friends, rising to executive producer/co-showrunner, and co-created spinoff Joey.
The strong interest in the project underscores the huge popularity of the comedy genre this development season, which has led to bidding wars over several half-hour pitches.
JoAnna Garcia will presumably get pulses racing as a doctor on Royal Pains, TVLine has learned exclusively — thus providing her with a convenient East Coast gig while slugger hubby Nick Swisher’s New York Yankees cruise into the post-season.
In multiple episodes of USA Network’s medical dramedy, Garcia will play Dr. Nina Greene, a smart and compassionate nephrologist who may or may not be a former child star. The doc’s possibly famous-ish background comes to the fore when she is pressed on the issue by patient Jack O’Malley, aka the golf pro played by Ed‘s Tom Cavanagh.
Though perhaps best known for her run on Reba, Garcia’s TV credits also include, most recently, ABC’s Better With You, plus Gossip Girl, Privileged, and the TV-movie The Initiation of Sarah.
Royal Pains aired its summer finale on Aug. 31. Season 3 will resume sometime in early 2012.
