When JoAnna Garcia tied the knot with Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher in Palm Beach, Fla., in December, they said “I do” while surrounded by famous friends like Cameron Diaz, Alex Rodriguez, Jamie Lynn-Sigler, Reba McEntire and Lance Bass. And almost a year into their marriage, the couple is still basking in the glow of their newly wedded bliss. We caught up with the “Better With You” star at New York Fashion Week’s Luca Luca Spring 2012 presentation, where she dished on being a wife, her new TV project and why Cameron and Jamie are JoAnna’s fashion muses. Wonderwall: How’s married life? JoAnna Garcia: It’s awesome! It’s amazing and I absolutely love it! It’s gotten better and deeper. You’re super invested and the more and more you get into it, the better it is … [We're] really newlyweds still. WW: Which celebrities are your biggest style inspirations? JG: My friends are my style inspiration; people like Jamie [Lynn-Sigler] are my style inspiration. They are just incredibly stylish and Jamie’s got such New York flair to her style. And of course Cameron [Diaz], I bow down to her. And anything that Rachel Zoe does, she’s just really got it going on. WW: What projects are you working on? JG: I have “Royal Pains” in the works and I get to make out with Mark Feuerstein and I’m super excited about that. What girl doesn’t want that? WW: How does your husband feel about an on-the-job make-out session? JG: I think he’s OK with it. He knew what he was getting himself into with marrying me. WW: Do you have a fashion regret? JG: I mean like everything up until about two years ago. I look back and I’m like, “dear God help me.” WW: Why two years ago? JG: I don’t know, but I think I just became a little more aware of my body. I just really started feeling really comfortable in my skin. And I also turned 30 two years ago, which was really a magical moment for me. And I’m 32 now and I feel great. Now I feel like “this is me — so let’s rock it out.” |

JoAnna Garcia will presumably get pulses racing as a doctor on Royal Pains, TVLine has learned exclusively — thus providing her with a convenient East Coast gig while slugger hubby Nick Swisher’s New York Yankees cruise into the post-season. In multiple episodes of USA Network’s medical dramedy, Garcia will play Dr. Nina Greene, a smart and compassionate nephrologist who may or may not be a former child star. The doc’s possibly famous-ish background comes to the fore when she is pressed on the issue by patient Jack O’Malley, aka the golf pro played by Ed‘s Tom Cavanagh. Though perhaps best known for her run on Reba, Garcia’s TV credits also include, most recently, ABC’s Better With You, plus Gossip Girl, Privileged, and the TV-movie The Initiation of Sarah. Royal Pains aired its summer finale on Aug. 31. Season 3 will resume sometime in early 2012. |

Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher is finally taking his new wife, Joanna Garcia, on a honeymoon — to Afghanistan. Nick and actress Joanna, a star of ABC’s “Better Without You,” plan to visit US troops in November, their first trip since they married last December. Speaking to us at the Yankees Unite for Tornado Relief event at Southern Hospitality Hell’s Kitchen, Swisher said, “Three military officers came to the Yankee locker room and asked if any of us would like to visit the troops. My hand went straight up, I said, ‘I’m in.’ I knew Joanna would want to go. It will be our first trip since we got married. “I come from a military family … and no matter what your views are, these men and women are out there risking everything for us. I realize how fortunate I have been, so I like to give back at every opportunity I can. I don’t want to look back on my life when I am old, with my grandchildren around me, and think, ‘Man, I wish I’d done that. I’ve got one shot at this [life].’ ” Nick and Joanna wed in Palm Beach in front of 350 family and friends including Cameron Diaz, Alex Rodriguez and other Yankees teammates. But they had to postpone the honeymoon due to work commitments. Excited Garcia also told us, “We are both really looking forward to visiting the troops. Yes, it isn’t a traditional honeymoon, but it is something we both feel strongly about.” But she added, “We’ll probably make a stop in Europe on our way back.” Monday’s event, hosted by the Swishers, pitcher Dave Robertson and wife Erin to benefit Robertson’s tornado-torn hometown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., also drew fellow Yankees CC Sabathia, A-Rod, Russell Martin and MVP candidate Curtis Granderson, who was seen asking Darryl Strawberry for his autograph. The Skybridge Capital-sponsored bash raised over $150,000 for Alabama tornado victims. |
